Tutorial Video: Arc Measurements for 3DViewStation

A large number of users successfully utilize the already very diverse measurement and dimensioning functions of Kisters 3DViewStation on a daily basis. These include:

  • Measuring the coordinates of points
  • Length measurements, including the cumulative length of multiple segments
  • The shortest path between two points along edges
  • Radius and diameter of circles
  • Distances between
    • points
    • edges
    • surfaces
    • solids
    • centers of circles
    • circle axes
  • and combinations of the above
  • Angle measurement functions across
    • edges
    • circle axes
    • surfaces
    • and combinations of the above
    • 3 points
  • Area calculation
  • Projected area
  • Bounding box calculation
  • Wall thickness measurement function using the ray and sphere methods
  • Calculation of borehole parameters

One remaining gap that has now been closed is the arc measurement function, which calculates not only the length of the arc but also the angle. This new function offers various options:

  • The simplest and certainly most commonly used: simply select 2 points on a circle
  • An alternative: select points that do not lie on the circle but are in the plane spanned by the circle; these points are then first projected onto the circle, and the circular arc measurement function is then executed.
  • If the points are not even in the plane of the circle, they are first projected onto that plane.
  • This also works if one of the components is rotated relative to the other.

Note: As long as you want to repeatedly apply the arc measurement function to the same circle, you do not need to select it again. The previous selection remains active until a new circle is selected.
